Lesson Three - Baptism

When a person has received Christ as their personal Savior and has submitted themselves to the authority of Scripture, it is time to encourage them to be obedient in their identification with Christ.

Certainly this ordinance has been greatly abused in the days in which we live.

I. The exhortation concerning Baptism.

  • Matthew 28:19,20
  • Romans 6:3,4
  • Matthew 10:32,33
  • II. The example of Baptism.

  • Christ- Matthew 3:13-17
  • The early church- Acts 2:38,41; 8:12, 38;
  • III. The meaning of Baptism.

  • baptizo (bap-tid'-zo) - to immerse, submerge; to make whelmed (i.e. fully wet); used only (in the New Testament) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism:--Baptist, baptize, wash.
  • Identification- with death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  • IV. The exaltation of Baptism.

  • Acts 8:26-39
  • Baptism is not a means of salvation. It is an ordinance not a sacrament. It is an outward way of identifying what already has taken place in your heart.

    We submit to baptism out of obedience to the Word of God.
