Lesson Six - Prayer
If one is going to survive in their relationship with Jesus Christ, they must learn the importance of prayer. There are many sayings about prayer. “Life is fragile, handle with prayer.” “It pays to pray.” “Why worry when you can pray?” “Seven days without prayer makes one weak.” While each of these is true, I think the most important reason to have this discipline in our life is seen in the Word of God.
I. The example of prayer
II. The exhortations to pray
III. The elements of prayer. Matthew 6:8-15
IV. The effect of prayer. James 5:16-18
When we pray, the purpose is not to get our way done in heaven, it is to get God’s way done on earth. Our prayer shows our dependence upon the Lord. There is no way we can have spiritual strength without prayer. Remember the words of our Savior in John 15:5, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
