Phil. 2:16: Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither labored in vain.

Lesson One - What is salvation all about?

There is no way that a new believer has an understanding of what all took place the moment they received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Therefore, this lesson is designed to help them have a better understanding of what salvation is all about.

I. Just what is the gospel?

  • 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4
  • Romans 10:8-10
  • II. Christ’s death on the cross paid the full penalty for our sins and allows us to have His righteousness.

  • Romans 3:24-26
  • Psalm 103:12
  • III. Salvation was totally accomplished by the grace of God completely apart from human effort.

  • Ephesians 2:8-10
  • IV. Sinners cannot earn salvation with God.

  • Romans 8:8
  • V. Eternal life is a complete gift from God.

  • Romans 6:23
  • VI. Christians can and do sin even after they are saved.

  • 1 John 1:8, 10
  • Romans 7:15-24
  • 2 Samuel 11
  • VII. The truth of the gospel also involves repentance.

  • Acts 2:38,17:30, 20:21, 2 Pet. 3:9
  • Repentance is turning from sin (Acts 3:19, Luke 24:47).
  • It is not a work but a divinely bestowed grace (Acts 11:18, 2 Tim. 2:25).
  • Repentance is a change of heart, but genuine repentance will effAugust 20, 2006;20).
  • ** It is important to realize that salvation is all the work of God!

  • John 2:9—But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
  • 1John 4:19—We love him, because he first loved us.
